Welcome to the start of the 2016/17 season
With the success of the Great Britain Ladies in the Olympics the committee are looking forward to another success year both on and off the pitch.
Senior training has already started on Tuesday evenings at Harper Green from 19:30 to 21:00 for the Men’s and Ladies.
Junior Training re-starts on Monday 5th September from 19:00 to 20:30 at Canon Slade High School. Please note that the last 30 minutes is for Badgers and Beavers only. If you are unsure if your son or daughter will be training for the last 30 minutes then please contact Chris Williams or our Junior Representative James Beamish (contact details at the bottom of the post).
You may also be aware that the club has been running ‘Back to Hockey’ sessions over the summer. These will continue on a Monday night at Canon Slade from 20:00 to 21:00, costing just £3 per session. Please spread the news as we’d love to get more people involved in the sport we all love.
CLUB DAY & HOCKEY FEST
The club will be hosting our very own Hockey Fest on Saturday 3 September.
This is open to all members new and old, juniors especially included.
We will start playing around 13:00 on the 3rd September at Harper Green until 15:00 and will then continue in the club for a sociable drink with team mates afterwards.
The committee are asking for a suggested donation of £3 and would ask that you bring both a blue and white shirt to play in.
Who will be crowned Mastermind this year?! This is always a popular social and a great way to mark the first full weekend of league fixtures.
When – Saturday 24th September
Where – Farnworth Cricket Club
Time – 19:00 – All welcome including families
How much – £5 per person (included Pasty & Peas Supper)
The committee have organised with England Hockey to run another Umpiring course, on Sunday 11 September from 9am to 4pm. The cost of the course is £50 for which the club will reimburse you; £25 once you have completed the course and the remaining money once you have completed 3 games and passed the Level 1 Award. You will need to register with England Hockey, a link to the website is here, and complete the online rules test before attending the course. The course is open to both adults and juniors, please review the website for age restrictions. The deadline for registration is 31 August.
As you are all aware, without umpires we can’t play our wonderful game. We are looking for more people to be involved and have decided as a club to pay all umpires £5 a match this coming season.
This season we are doing away with the usual membership forms, and using an easier and more convenient on-line form. This will make it easier for the committee to keep your information up to date and allow us to communicate with you more effectively. The membership form can be accessed in the following link or on the clubs website.
An addition to the membership form is the ability for you to sign up to Gift Aid. On the form we will see an area for you to allow the club to claim Gift Aid on your behalf, including any donations you have made in the past 4 years (up to 25% of the value of your donation will return to the club the pitch fund). The committee hope that you allow us to do this in order to boost fundraising to help the club achieve the goal of raising the £10,000 we need to get to our £50,000 new pitch fund target. There will also be the ability to make donations through Justgiving – just log onto Justgiving, search for Bolton Hockey Club and follow the on-line instructions.
HELP, SUPPORT AND NEW IDEAS
The committee are always on the lookout for people to get involved, whether that is with coaching, umpiring, ideas for raising money or just helping on a social event. If you think you can help then please get in touch with any of the committee. Anybody fancy arranging a sponsored bag packing event?
